Social Media: Misinformation and Content Moderation Issues for Congress
This publication from the Congressional Research Service argues that the U.S. Congress needs to continue to address sources of misinformation by examining both public and private sector influences and who exactly defines what is considered as misinformation. However, the report notes that Congress is limited in what actions it can take to combat misinformation because of the First Amendment. The report summarizes social media usage in the U.S., as well as actions that Congress has already taken.
